This painting was commissioned for the book COMET by Carl Sagan and Ann Druyan. A dinosaur contemplates a spectacular shower of comets in the evening sky 65 million years ago, unaware that a comet was about to strike the Earth and wipe out most of the species alive, including the dinosaurs. The individual depicted had something like hands and a larger brain size for its body weight than most of its contemporaries. If the dinosaurs had not been rendered extinct, perhaps the dominant form of intelligent life on Earth today would have descended from such a creature.

This painting was created as the cover for the book DISTANT ENCOUNTERS by Mark Washburn, an account of the Voyager mission to the outer solar system. Saturn, Jupiter, and Earth are seen looking back towards the Sun from just beyond Titan, the largest moon of Saturn.

The double helix of DNA is shown unwinding and replicating as a system of planets linked by communication. The network of civiliations is envisioned as the Galaxy's DNA.

Commissioned by the Life Sciences Division of NASA in 1986 to illustrate a publication about their work. The artist imagines the lift-off of a Space Shuttle as symbolically and literally carrying Earth's DNA into space.

The artist had completed a diving trip to the Red Sea and was painting in Jerusalem when he created this vision of the analogy between a fish in the ocean and our planet in space. It has been used on the cover of the textbook THE SEARCH FOR LIFE IN THE UNIVERSE by Donald Goldsmith and Tobias Owen, and was the logo for the International Bioastronomy Symposium held at the University of California in 1993.
