The titles featured in this gallery are available as Giclee prints. Giclee prints are digitally produced art, printed on canvas or paper using archival quality materials for many years of fade-free enjoyment. Paper offers a smooth finish while canvas is textured to appear similar to an actual painting. All Giclee prints are signed and have a minimum 2" white border on all sides.
This is a production painting that appeared in Carl Sagan's book COSMOS and the award winning television series of the same name.
The icy surface of Jupiter's moon Europa may conceal an underground ocean of liquid water. A swarm of comet particles approaches the giant planet on the horizon.
Explorers of the ocean on Europa will need lights to view the features of this lightless sea.
Jon Lomberg pays homage to the great Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849) who created a famous woodcut of a giant wave with Mt. Fuji seen on the horizon. Lomberg reinterprets this image in an astronomical context, showing the disk of the galaxy as a cresting wave, with young stars spraying out from the wave. The galactic center can be seen in the background, in the position Mt. Fuji occupies in the woodcut.
